Which wood is best?

There are no hard and fast rules as to which wood is best. Softwoods such as pressure treated Southern Yellow Pine are extremely durable, however, The Designer Decking Company tend to steer well clear of some of the cheaper softwoods which really can't stand up to the test of time.

Softwoods have a completely different aesthethic character to the hardwoods and it really comes down to personal choice and of course cost. Hardwoods tend to be more expensive but even here the cost can vary considerably ranging from the lower end such as balau to very expensive teak & oak.

The choice is daunting and in order to minimise the hassle of choosing we have limited the selection. Of course, we can supply costs and specifications for a much wider range on request. The woods we have featured on this website are amongst the most popular and durable and we feel will suit most tastes.

Finally, most woods are available in ribbed or smooth finish.
